Beyonce is fighting to trademark Blu Ivy Carter since there is a weeding planner named Blu Ivy. According to court docs obtained by Blast,Beyonce lists Blue Ivy Carter being a cultural icon as just one of several reasons why she should be granted a trademark for her famous daughter’s name. To loop y’all in, Beyonce has been battling wedding planner Wendy Morales for years over this trademark and the case is likely to go to trial.
Morales claims she had already been using the name “Blue Ivy” for years but in newly filed documents, Beyonce clearly feels Morales’ claim that consumers will confuse Morales’ boutique wedding event planning business with her daughter’s name is just silly. Bey even got a little shady in the process. Beyonce says Morales runs a “small business, with just three regional offices and a handful of employees”, with weak online presence and poorly subscribed social media accounts. Bey also pointed out that her trademark application is for “Blue Ivy Carter,” not “Blue Ivy.”
In the court docs, Beyonce also accused Morales of having, “exhibited a pattern and practice of affirmatively attempting to connect its brand with Blue Ivy Carter to increase its exposure and drum up business,” and even pulled receipts!
