Police in Madison, Wisconsin are still piecing together the clues to figure out why a 15-year-old girl brought a gun to school yesterday and opened fire, killing two people and then herself.
The shooting at the Abundant Life Christian School left one teacher and one teen student dead. Two other students were shot and are in critical condition. Three other students and one teacher suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The shooter was initially described as a 17-year-old girl but was later identified as 15-year-old student Natalie Rupnow, who went by the name Samantha. She was found in the school with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and died on the way to the hospital. Investigators say they recovered a 9mm pistol believed to be the murder weapon.
Police Chief Shon Barnes said the shooting occurred inside a study hall where there were students of different grades. He added, "A second-grade student called 911 to report a shooting had occurred at school. I'm going to let that soak in for a minute." There have been 322 school shootings this year. (USA Today)
