Incumbent Senator Raphael Warnock beat his Republican rival, Hershel Walker, in Tuesday's runoff election, ending a hotly contested battle that gained national attention.

The victory means the Democrats have a 51-seat majority in the Senate and it allows Warnock, the first Black senator from Georgia, a full six-year term.

Walker's defeat marks another big loss for Donald Trump, who handpicked the candidate, adding to a myriad of loses by Trump-backed candidates in the recent elections, including Senate candidates in Nevada, Arizona and New Hampshire, as well as his choices for governor in Arizona, Michigan and Georgia.
