Freddie Gibbs is calling out rappers who use AI programs like ChatGPT to come up with their verses.
During a recent discussion with The Ringer's Ryen Russillo, the Alfredo rapper got candid about artists who rely on AI to create lyrics for their music. Gibbs didn't name anyone in particular, but it's clear that he's not a fan of those who have to consult with a computer in the booth.
“Look at AI rap now man," Gibbs said. "I don’t even believe nobody that write. I don’t even believe if you even really make it anymore cause I done been in studios with muthaf**kas and muthaf**kas is ChatGPT-ing s**t and I’m like, ‘What in the f**k?’"
"Like damn, how long am I gonna be able to do this s**t? Cause I’m actually making fresh s**t," he continued. “How long am I going to be able to do it when there’s muthaf**kas in the studio typing into a computer to get their music? We in a lazy day and age, man. Art is dying and you got to ask a computer to write your lyrics — s**t is wack.”
Freddie Gibbs is one of several artists who've vented their frustrations about the use of AI in the music industry. Young Guru has also been vocal about his opposition to using AI in the studio. He previously called out Timbaland for promoting his new AI-generated artist, known as "TaTa."
Meanwhile, some artists have openly admitted to using ChatGPT to write their lyrics. Newcomer BabyChiefDoIt recently spoke about using the AI program to cook up lyrics during a recent interview with Power 105.1.
