Looks like Kendrick Lamar is helping i-D magazine celebrate their 40th Anniversary Issue, by interviewing Baby Keem, dubbed by many a young artist with a promising future.
The two sit down and have a conversation about early beginnings, the process of making music, and life.
During the conversation when Kendrick and Keem are talking about the process and progress of making music, Kendrick reminisced about the thoughts that were in his head during the making of his first album, "I can see from the outside in that people think that itโs overnight. I remember when I came out on my first album, people thought it was overnight, but it was years on top of years of doing it. And that dedication counts man, thatโs the fire part about it. When I heard your music then and when I hear it now, I hear an unapologetic young n****, the hunger of a young n****, looking for fun, the same way we were looking for fun when I was 19."
They continue the conversation, Keem responds to Kendrick on his growth from Die for my B*tch to now, saying, "Die for my Bitch was a breakthrough, it really gave me a chance to play with my sounds and open up the lane to grow in confidence."
Kendrick responds, "I get it, thatโs what will take me so long to do albums (laughs). I spend the whole year just thinking about how Iโm gonna execute a new sound, I canโt do the same thing over and over. I need something to get me excited. I see you get frustrated sometimes because you want some new sh*t."
With that said, it's safe to say we can't wait to hear what new sound Kendrick Lamar has been taking his time crafting, and how Keem continues to follow in those same footsteps.
