T-Pain says another fellow R&B star came this close to bagging hit song โBuy U a Drank (Shawty Snappinโ).โ
During a recent video appearance on The Hot Ones, the two-time Grammy-winning singer revealed it was the one and only Chris Brown who tried to take the 2007 banger off his hands the minute he heard it. As T-Pain recalled during the sitdown, the autotune mastermind teased the record Brown, who was feeling the song so much that he wanted it for himself.
โOnce I made it, I was so proud of it [that] I walked into Chris Brownโs studio and showed it to Chris Brown,โ said the musician. โHe tried to take it from me. He was like, โOh, my Godโฆ Weโve got to get this on my album.โ And I was like, โYeah, man! For sure! Nah, whatever you want!โ I was just defeated at that time, and as soon as I left out of that room, I was like, โHeโs not ever hearing that song again.โโ
Even after more than a decade, the timeless smash, which also features rhymes by Yung Joc, remains one of T-Painโs hottest songs of his career and still spins at parties and clubs to this day. Despite its slow ascent in 2007, โBuy U a Drank (Shawty Snappinโ)โ became T-Painโs first and Yung Jocโs second No. 1 single on Billboardโs Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. It also bagged the two rising artists their first No. 1 on Billboardโs Hot 100 at the time as well.
